About the Book
Why This Belongs in Every Filipino Home
For generations, Filipinos have been the backbone of the global workforce — trusted to execute, rarely invited to lead. Born to Soar confronts that paradox head-on. Drawing on 25+ years of leadership across 50+ countries, Richard M. Caballero introduces the Geese Project 3-4-12 Leadership System: a culturally-grounded framework that turns the very traits Filipino upbringing instills in us — resilience, resourcefulness, relationship-building, integrity — into a competitive edge on the world stage. It is the shift from crab mentality to geese mentality: success measured not by who flies highest alone, but by how far the whole formation flies together.
Here is why the timing matters. As artificial intelligence automates technical skill and levels the playing field on raw expertise, what remains uniquely valuable is exactly what this book argues Filipinos already carry in abundance: empathy, adaptability, and the human judgment no machine can replicate. Born to Soar makes the case that this is not a moment to catch up — it is a moment for Filipinos to lead.
This is why the Geese Project is calling on Filipinos around the world to come together and get a copy of Born to Soar — not just for yourself, but for the leaders who have shaped your life: your parents, teachers, mentors, colleagues, and the teams you lead, whether they are here in the Philippines or across the globe.
Every copy you share with a fellow Filipino is more than a book. It is an invitation to rise, to lead with confidence, and to break through the barriers that have held too many of us back. It is a reminder that our Filipino identity is not a limitation to overcome, but a strength, a culture, and a perspective the world needs.
Help place this book in the hands of every Filipino who has ever been told to wait for a seat at the table. Let’s stop waiting for an invitation. Let’s build the table, bring others with us, and rise together.
Born to Soar isn’t just a leadership book. It’s a call for every Filipino to stop adapting to global leadership and start defining it — for yourself, for your kids, and for the next generation.“The quality of leadership not only shapes the destiny of companies, but also the fabric of communities and the course of nations.

Foreword
A Message from Jack Madrid
President & CEO, IBPAP — International Business Process Association of the Philippines
We are living through one of those rare inflection points where the rules of the game are being rewritten in real time. Artificial Intelligence is not just another wave of technology. It is a fundamental shift in how value is created — how work gets done, how decisions are made, and ultimately, how leadership is defined.
For those of us in the IT-BPM industry, this shift is not theoretical. It is immediate, visible, and accelerating. With almost two million Filipinos powering global business services and contributing roughly US$40 billion in revenue, our industry sits squarely at the center of this transformation.
But here is the reality we must confront: the very capabilities that made us successful in the last 20 years — scale, efficiency, process excellence — are now being redefined by AI. Tasks can be automated. Processes can be optimized. Knowledge can be replicated. This raises a more important question: what, then, becomes uniquely human — and uniquely valuable? This is where Born to Soar comes in.
What Richard Caballero has done in this book is both timely and necessary. He reframes leadership not as a function of expertise or authority, but as a set of human capabilities that become even more critical in an AI-enabled world. In the age of AI, leadership is no longer about having the answers. Rather, it is about asking better questions.
For decades, the Philippines has been known for empathy, adaptability, and fluency in English — traits often labeled as “soft skills,” but which are, in reality, the hardest to replicate and the most valuable in an AI-driven economy. The future will not be won by those who can out-compute machines. It will be won by those who can lead people through ambiguity, through change, and through constant reinvention.
The Geese Project, which anchors this book, offers a compelling and culturally grounded way to think about this. It challenges us — honestly and directly — to examine both our strengths and our blind spots.
This is the leadership gap that Born to Soar addresses. It serves both as a mirror and a map. A mirror, because it asks us to reflect on who we are today. A map, because it shows us who we can become. This is our moment — not at the sidelines, but at the center of global transformation.
Richard’s message is both simple and powerful: Filipinos are not just capable of thriving in the age of AI. We are positioned to lead in it — but only if we make the shift, from comfort to courage, from execution to ownership, from support roles to strategic leadership. This book is an invitation to rethink leadership, rediscover our strengths, and act with urgency and intent.

Michael Herrera
Chief Financial Officer
George Brown Polytechnic, Toronto, Canada
“The transition the author describes, from crab mentality to geese mentality, resonated deeply with my own experience navigating leadership across cultures in the global stage. Success built on collective lift rather than individual ascent is not just a Filipino value worth preserving — it is a competitive advantage in any global organization, and the author articulates this with clarity and conviction.“
Atty. Jocelle Batapa-Sigue
Former Undersecretary
Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT)
“As a leader, I find value, satisfaction and reward in always bringing all other leaders with me. Initially I fly in front, but soon another leader will take over and I will rotate to the back. The goal is to create more leaders to be the lead goose for the flock to fly continuously.”
Rommel Rivera

“This book deserves a place on the desk of every Filipino executive, manager, and rising leader who is serious about building organizations — and a nation — that can compete and lead in the AI era.“
The Creed
The Geese Project Manifesto
We believe the future of the Philippines will be built by leaders — not by bystanders.
We believe every Filipino is born with the potential to soar beyond circumstance.
We choose courage over comfort, excellence over mediocrity, and purpose over personal gain.
We will think globally, act ethically, and lead with compassion.
We will lift others as we climb, because leadership is measured not by how many people follow us, but by how many leaders we create.
We will embrace innovation without losing our humanity, using technology to elevate people, not replace them.
We will lead with integrity, choosing what is right over what is easy, even when no one is watching.
We reject the mindset of “pwede na.” We pursue excellence because our nation deserves nothing less than our very best.
We will pay forward what we learn, investing in others so that every generation of Filipino leaders will soar higher than the one before it.
We will stand together like geese in flight — sharing the lead, supporting one another, and never leaving anyone behind.
We believe the Philippines is not destined to follow. We are destined to lead.
Together, we will rise. Together, we will soar. Together, we will build the nation our children deserve.
